Save On The Statement

Even though I hate to say it because I still think it's way too early, but the Christmas nights out and festivities are coming up very quickly. Thinking about what to wear is one thing but how to take your everyday makeup to the next level is another. You wouldn't mind splashing out on a foundation that you use every day or a nude lipstick you'll get the wear out of but you don't really want to spend all your money on a glitter you're going to use for a couple of nights out. I'm going to share some statement makeup products with you that will make your everyday look party ready without breaking the bank.
This post is definitely not for the MUA's or people who love to experiment with colour. it's for the person who wants to amp up their makeup bag with a few statement products that won't break the bank. These products are perfect to use with your everyday makeup look to add some glitz and glam for any occasion in the coming weeks. I'm also going to show you a look I created using some of  the products.

First of all, the skin. After doing your usual foundation and all that jazz, to add some sparkle to your cheeks a shimmery highlight is great. I love the Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette because it's really affordable and you get three powder highlighters as well as a cream, so plenty of options. The powders are really pigmented and metallic so a little swept across the high points of your face will really catch the light and amp up your usual skin look.

For the eyeshadow lovers a palette is a great way to play around with makeup for the holiday season. You can create so many looks with a palette but they can usually be quite pricey and the more affordable ones sometimes aren't the best quality. The Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette is such a great one for this time of year because of the lovely warm tones and also isn't going to cost a bomb. There are some neutral and matte shadows that are perfect for everyday looks as well as some glitter and shimmer shades that are gorgeous on the eyes. It would also make a fab Christmas present, as well as the highlight palette for any makeup wearer in your life.
You can't have festive makeup without glitter, so I have a couple of options for you. First off are the newest additions to my stash and they are the Penneys PS Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow - Black Ice & Glamour. These are absolutely stunning liquid glitters that are basically dupes for the Stila liquid eyeshadows. They're so incredibly metallic and gorgeous and come in a few shades to choose from. I would either put them straight onto my lid or else layer them over another eyeshadow to make them even more intense.

If you want to go for the traditional glitter that you may need glue for or else just a sticky base, the NYX Glitter - Copper is stunning. They have so many more colours but this is my personal favourite and I think it's one of the most wearable shades. I'd either put some glue on my lids and pat this on or else I would put on a liquid eyeshadow and add this over it while it is still wet so it will stick.

Another option is to go down the pigment route. I find pigments and glitters are one of the few things the lower end beauty market don't have a lot of but the Barry M Dazzle Dust - Bronze is a fab one. This isn't as glitzy as a glitter it's more of a shimmer so if glitter seems kind of terrifying to you this might be an option. Again it's a great one as an eyeshadow topper or else on its own. I usually wet my brush using a setting spray and then add some of the pigment onto it and pat onto my lid.
Ok enough of the eyes now onto the lips. We all know that a red lip is the classic winter lip but to be honest it always terrifies me so for me a bold lip would be something like the Nyx Soft Matte Lip Cream - Rome. It's kind of like a dark pinky nude so it's kind of a statement for someone with as pale skin as me but definitely isn't as scary as because it's matte it lasts really well.

If you're more of a nude fan like myself the BPerfect Lip Kit - Secret would be a perfect one. It's an unreal multitasker because it has a liner, lipstick and a gloss you can create a few different lip looks with it. And again, another great christmas gift and they have a couple of shades to choose from.
For the look I created with the products just mentioned I used the Sleek Solstice Highlighting Palette on the skin. On the eyes I started with the Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette with the shades 'Substitute For Love' in my crease and 'Freshly Toasted' in the outer corner. Then I patted 'Infusion' on my lid (which had quite a bit of fall out so I would suggest doing your eyes first if you're using this shade) and finally 'Bitter Start' to brighten up the inner corner.
To add some more shimmer on the lid I added the Penneys PS Liquid Glitter Eyeshadow - Black Ice on top of the shadow and to finish everything off I used BPerfect Lip Kit - Secret on my lips.

So there we have it, the cheap and cheerful products that will add some glitz and glamour to your everyday makeup routine for the festivities. I hope you enjoyed,

  1. Nice post! I totally agree with not spending a bomb on some makeup that you use just for the festive season. I would love to try out the Penneys Liquid Glitter Eyeshadows, they look fab.
