When I took to Twitter and asked, ye seem to all have wanted to see a burgundy winged eye look as my next tutorial. It was between that and a 'Day to Night' makeup look as I'm doing them regularly these days. But I listened to what ye waned so today I'm going to share a look I like to call 'Burgundy Wings'. I love this look because it's more colourful than my usual bronze eye, and the red tones really bring out the green in my eyes.
I did this look for a friend's party one Friday evening and shared it on Snapchat. I got loads of positive feedback on it and people were wondering what I used and all that jazz. This is a lot of makeup especially for the girl who loves natural makeup looks, so I certainly wouldn't do this look often. Actually, I'm fairly rubbish at heavier eye makeup because it all seems to blend into one colour. But this is the one look that I think looks fairly ok and defined.
Before I shot this tutorial I already did my face makeup and filled in my brows, just because otherwise we'd be here for days. If you'd like me to do a full tutorial on the face and eyebrow makeup then let me know but for now let's start with the eyes.
Using some sticky notes I lined them up with my outer corner and the end of my brow. I swear by these things as they give a crisp line to any look. They create the winged look really easily without any hassle. I also use these when I'm doing winged liner.
To prime the eye and add some colour I started with an cream eyeshadow stick. I always love starting with a cream shadow as they're really easy to blend and they make the powder shadows more pigmented. I placed the cream all over my eyelid and on my lower lash line. I then blended it into my crease and blended everything with a big fluffy blending brush.
I then went in with a mid-toned matte brow powder shadow to define my crease. Then I went in with a darker brown to further define the socket line.
After blending everything out I went in with a dark purple shade from the same palette and placed this in the outer v to create more definition.
To set the cream shadow on the centre of my lid I used a single shadow that's a gorgeous shimmery red shade. I simply packed this on with a flat shader brush onto the centre of my lid.
Going back to the palette I used earlier I went in with the lightest shadow to highlight. I placed this on my inner corner and under my brow bone. Because this is quite a dark eye look I thinks it's so important to highlight and bring some light to the eye. I then went in with a big fluffy brush and blended everything out.
I then took a liquid liner and lined my upper lash line. I followed the lines from the sticky notes to create a wing. This does take a lot of practice and sometimes it looks shocking, but you'll get the hang of it!
To finish off the look I added loads of mascara. Now, I'm rubbish at applying false lashes but recently I think I've been doing it quite well! This step is completely optional and I wouldn't use lashes every time I do this look. I just took a lash with my tweezers, added some glue and then waited for it to get a bit tacky. I then applied it as close to my lash line as possible. I add about 3 lashes to each eye and focused them on the outer half of my eye.
Because this is a really heavy makeup look I went for a nude lie to balance everything. I lined my lips to create some definition and then topped it off with my newest Mac lipstick, which I am currently loving. It's the perfect neutral nude.
Sometimes I will go back in with the primer water I used earlier to set everything in place. I might even go in with a setting spray if I'm going out to make sure everything lasts and stays in place all night.
