Blogging Tips

Since I have been blogging for over two years (where has the time gone?!) I have deicded to share some of the tips I would share to fellow bloggers, whether they have just started or have been blogging for years. These are the biggest things I have learned over the years and I personally think are the most important things when it comes to blogging. This notebook is from the lovely Jen over at TooDollyMakeup and it is my new blogging notebook! So let's get started with my top tips for bloggers.

Discuss what you are passionate about
There is no point in having a fashion blog if you hate fashion. Even if your blog is a big mixture of lifestyle, baking, fashion and makeup it dosen't matter. The most important thing is to talk and write about what you love and what you are passionate about. Personally I love everything fashion, beauty and lifestyle, that is why I write and discuss these subjects on my blog. Only blog about things you love with your personal opinions, in the end your blog is a reflection of you and what you love!

Be social
This is something I wish I would have known about in the early days of my blog. I was terrified to share my blog on my social media as I thought people in real life would judge. I finally realised that no one cares what you do once you do what you want to do. Using social media is a great way to promote your blog and find other bloggers. Make sure to link your social media on your blog and your blog on your social media. Share your most recent posts and interact with others.

Numbers aren't everything
Everything takes time. If you're blogging for you and you only you shouldn't get caught up about how many views or followers or likes you have. Don't compare yourself to other bloggers with however amount of views they have. Numbers don't define how successful you and your blog are. Sometimes it is hard to remember this and it is easy to get bogged down by the figures but just remember, numbers aren't everything.

Natural light
This is the biggest tip I would tell bloggers, to use natural lighting. Whether you are taking products photos, makeup or outfit photos use natural light. Artificial light diminishes the quality if the photo (unless you have fancy studio lights, but most of us don't). When you use natural light it dosen't matter whether you use your phone or DSLR the photos will look fab.

Dont be afraid to ask for help
Some people can do all of their blog work on their own, but I personally ask my family and friends to give me a hand. You shouldn't be afraid to ask for help as the people who love you wouldn't mind helping you out with something you love doing. I always ask my friends to take photos of my outfit or makeup for me. My twin, Darragh is my biggest blog helper. He is always there to do outfit shoots and proofread my posts (which I am very thankful for). All you have to do is teach your friend or family member how to take a basic picture and then you will have your personal photographer always with you! I promise they would love to help you.

Keep organised
Uploading regularly is the key to keep people interested and read your blog on a regular basis. Whether you blog twice a month or three times a week it dosen't matter, once you keep it regular. I personally blog once a week and upload the same time every week (that is just my personal preference) as I am in sixth year but I hope to upload more than that once I'm finished school.

Keeping organised is such a big part of blogging. As you can see i have a 'blogging' notebook, where I plan all my posts and scribble down my ideas. I keep track if what photos I have taken, what posts I need to proofread whether I have a certain post scheduled etc etc. I find that writing everything down helps me keep organised as there aren't a thousand different ideas floating around in my head!

Interact with others
Interacting with other bloggers is definitely so worth it. I have found so many amazing bloggers on social media over the past two years, some in Ireland, others around the world. I love participating in Twitter chats to find and talk to other bloggers. I love the Irish Bloggers chat (Irish_Blogger )which is run by two fabulous Irish bloggers. Commenting on and reading other blogs is such an easy way to interact with others. Don't be afraid to share your blog with them too! Some of the girls I have met on social media are so incredibly supportive of one another and I am hoping I will be able to meet them in real life soon! One of the best things about the blogging community is the way fellow bloggers build each other up and support each other which is truly incredible.

Do you have any other tips for bloggers?

  1. They are some fab tips! Interacting with other bloggers on Twitter is one of the biggest reasons why my blog is like it is today! Organisation and writing about stuff that interests you is equally important. I always remember to write a blog you would want to read not one you think others will want to read xx
