Skin Saviours

Before I start chatting about skincare I just want to wish every single one of ye a very happy new year and I hope 2017 will be the best year yet for us all.
New year new me, well new year new skin (technically your skin cells shed every month so yah, I guess new skin!) so I'm starting this year with much better skin than it was the past few months. You can read all about my acne and some of my story here

This trio of products have definitely helped a lot over the past few weeks with my acne. My brother has always used La Roche Posay since he had bad acne so I thought if they worked for him they might work for me and I decided to pick some up and try. Although these products are quite drying on the skin once you apply a good moisturiser and a facial oil once in a while they don't dry out my skin too much at all.
La Roche Posay Effacer Astringent Clarifying Lotion
This is certainly the most drying and harsh product out of the three. I would definitely not recommend using this if you have anyway dry or sensitive skin. I use a tiny tiny drop of this on a cotton pad all over my freshly cleansed face. I think it just cleans the skin on a deeper level and dries out breakouts. This is called a micro exfoliant which is great to keep an even surface on the skin without using a crash physical exfoliant. I do like this for using at the moment even though it does sting when applied to broken skin. I'm not sure if I will repurchase this after I use this up as it is very harsh on the skin, I'm glad I tried it out though.
La Roche Posay  Effacer Duo
So this was the first product I picked up to try. This is a cult product that I have heard so so much about. I think I actually used this a couple of years a go but obviously I didn't have bad acne then so I don't know if it did much to help. This is definitely the least offensive and harsh product out of the three. So as I said I picked this up first and started using this first. It definitely complimented other skincare products I was using and it doesn't react with them which is great. Once I started incorporating this into my skincare routine I definitely saw a difference. I don't think it dried up spots much but it helped heal the spots that were drying up. This also really helps with scars and marks left over from previous breakouts. Even though this is quite expensive and you definitely need to use it for a while until you see any difference in your skin, I still recommend it. This didn't help my skin drastically breakout wise but it definitely helped the overall texture of my skin. I definitely recommend using this in conjunction with more harsh acne products to help moisturise and heal the skin.
La Roche Posay Purifying Cleansing Gel
My skin feels clean after this and I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing! I guess it's good because I know my skin is cleansed and all the dirt is removed. But then again my skin can feel quite tight if I don't start doing my skincare routine right after I cleanse my face. So there is definitely a good and a bad with this cleanser. I definitely think it has made a difference in my skin and it I definitely recommend trying it out if you have acne prone or oily skin that isn't easily dried out. If my skin is having a particular dry or sensitive day it will feel tight and dry after using this so maybe using this in the morning and something else in the evening would be best for my skin. But all of that said I am enjoying using it at the moment and it has definitely helped clear up my acne. It has probably been the main product to dry up my actual active spots.
I have noticed such difference in my skin since using these products and I highly recommend checking them out if you are stuck in a rut with your skincare and need something to help acne. There are definitely so many other products targeted towards acne that I would like to try, I've had lots of brands recommended to me like Dermalogica and Cetaphil and I will definitely be trying in the future. Are there any products for breakouts that you think I should try?

  1. I love la Roche posay! The effaclar and effaclar duo are some of my favorite products, if you have dark spot or scars on your face you should try cicaplast, it's really good, also from la Roche posay. From Cetaphil I have only used the regular soap and it's really good too.

  2. Nice post! I love Effaclar Duo, it is great for killing off all those pesky spots. I haven't tried out anything else from La Roche Posay as my funds would dry up pretty quickly.

    1. Thank you gal! Yah they're fairly pricey alright. At this stage I'm willing to spend money on skincare because I've been struggling with my skin for ages and I haven't found anything else that has worked!
