A month or two ago I heard about Garnier releasing a skincare range for sensitive acneic skin and of course I thought about a possible cheaper alternative for La Roche Posay Effaclar range. Although La Roche Posay is nowhere near the high end skincare price it is still quite pricey if you're constantly repurchasing it and are a broke student. So as you can imagine I couldn't wait to get my hands on this Pure Active Sensitive range.
Because I couldn't wait any longer I ordered the range from Cara Pharmacy. They don't have the products on the Boots website but they stock them in Boots on Half Moon Street in Cork now. They are all extremely affordable products ranging from €4 to €6 which is incredible for these specialised skincare products. I find it so hard to find products that suit my skin because I suffer from acne but I don't have oily skin, which most brands associate with having acne.
Enough chat, let's get into the actual products themselves. They all have a slight scent to them, which I find strange because they are aimed at sensitive skin. So if your skin is incredibly sensitive, especially to smell I'd say give these a skip. The cleanser, apart from the smell (which I do really like) is basically the same as the La Roche Posay Effaclar Cleanser. I obviously cannot speak about the ingredients and keep in mind that I am talking about my use of the products and my opinions of them which could be different to yours. But I love this stuff, it cleanses my skin well but doesn't leave it tight feeling or tight. I will definitely be repurchasing this when I run out.
The toner is a very strange texture. It's thicker than usual tones as its almost like a runny gel, if that makes any sense. It's thicker than water but thinner that a gel, so you need to use a cotton pad to apply it. It felt really refreshing on the skin but I found if I applied too much it would almost ball up once I applied moisturiser and it would take ages to sink into the skin. I do think it worked well with the other products and is worth trying if you are curious about the whole range like I was. But I probably won't repurchase it in the future, although I'll finish the bottle I have now.
I adore this moisturiser. It calms the skin if there' s any inflammations, even though I've had none of that since using this range. It moisturises the skin without adding too much moisture to lead to spots. It sinks into the skin incredibly quickly and is a great base for makeup but also controls any oil my skin would produce during the day. I do think the La Roche Posay moisturiser is more mattifying which would be better if you have oily skin. But if you have normal or combination skin with imperfections I would highly recommend trying this moisturiser out.
So some of the products are incredibly similar to the La Roche Posay range and others aren't quite the same. But the overall result I got when using both ranges are more or less exactly the same. I would highly recommend checking this range out if your skin sounds similar to mine (but remember that what works for me mightn't work for you and your skin).
